Total War received a new installment in 2018 known as Total War Saga: Thrones of Britannia. The video game is very much the same style strategy game that the series is known for but set in the British Isles in 878 AD where Anglo-Saxons, Gaelic’s and Vikings begin to fight to reign as the leader.
The game has players going through campaigns where history will be shaped from the player’s actions and victories. This is also a standalone Total War video game, players can opt to pick the game up without having to replay any past titles. Likewise, developers have crafted the game to contain a highly detailed map as you gather armies and embark on campaign conquests.

M&B is insane in its ambition, and not the easiest game to get into, but once you do, getting away is even harder.

Ahh the middle ages. Knights in shining armor, swordplay, jousting, intrigue and superstition. What’s not to like? It’s a fan favorite backdrop for many video games. Most of them pepper the boring reality of history with much sought after special ingredients like Orcs and Elves and Magic and Dragons. Thank JRR Tolkien.
But there are also games that do not do that, that rely on the power of historical accuracy alone. Like the upcoming hyper realistic Kingdom Come: Deliverance, a game developed by the Czech designers that also created the Mafia games and the sadly forgotten Vietcong. Another medieval fantasy game. All the Gothic games have been very faithful in their renditions of medieval life, down to the more mundane (boring?) aspects. None of course as in depth as Mount and Blade, but still they are very immersive when it comes to rendering a fully realized medieval style world.

The first Assassin’s Creed was an incredibly vivid rendition of the medieval middle east. Granted, with a lot of science fiction-y backstory attached, but still very well realized and a joy to behold. The creators were obviously inspired by Ridley Scott’s last really great movie, Kingdom of Heaven, from which the game took a whole number of visual ideas.

Styx: Shards of Darkness is a stealth focused video game developed by Cyanide. Set as the third installment to the Of Orcs and Men series, players will take on the role of protagonist Styx. Overall, the narrative goal of the game is to infiltrate the Dark Elven city of Korangar in order to discover the reason between the new alliance of dark elves and dwarves.
If you enjoyed previous installments to Styx then you’ll find most of the gameplay elements have returned in this latest release. Styx will be able to turn invisible briefly, lay down traps and even clone himself in order to take out nearby enemies.
