In GRID Autosport, your transmission is set to Automatic by default unless you are playing on the Master difficulty level. On lower difficulty levels, you can enable Manual transmission by selecting Difficulty LevelCustom DifficultyTransmission from the Pause menu (also accessible from the Main menu under Options & Extras). When manual transmission is enabled, how you change gears depends on which control method you are using:

Tilt
If you are using Tilt controls, you can manually shift gears by flicking up or down anywhere on the screen. Flick up to shift up a gear, and flick down to shift down.

Wheel Touch
If you are using Wheel Touch controls, you shift gears by gently nudging the top of your device away from or towards you. Nudge the device away from you to shift up a gear, and nudge the device towards you to shift down a gear.

Advanced Options (Tilt controls only)
If you are using Tilt controls, you can select different gear shift control methods in GRID Autosport’s advanced options. To open the game’s advanced options, select OptionsAdvanced Options from the Pause menu (also accessible from the Main menu under Options & ExtrasOptions). The Options overlay will open. Select Advanced Control SettingsTilt ControlsGear Change Control Method. You will see three different gear change control methods:

  • Nudge device towards/away from you: Selecting this enables the nudge gear controls (described above under Wheel Touch).

  • Flick up/down on screen: This is the default option for Tilt controls (described above).

  • On-screen buttons: Selecting this adds gear shift up and gear shift down buttons to the left and right of your screen.

If you are using Wheel Touch controls, you cannot select a different gear change method, but you can invert the nudge gear changes if you wish (i.e. nudge toward you to shift up, and away to shift down). This option can be found in the Options overlay under Advanced Control SettingsWheel Touch Controls.

The advanced control options allow you to adjust the way GRID™ Autosport processes input from your steering wheel.

The options are found under Options & ExtrasOptionsControlsAdvanced Options, accessible from the Main Menu:

Steering Deadzone – adjusts the size of the non-responsive “dead” area around the centre of your wheel’s rotation; movements within this area will not cause the car to turn. Increase this setting to give you more 'play' around the centre of the wheel.

Steering Saturation – adjusts the sensitivity of the wheel. Increase this setting to reduce the amount you have to rotate the wheel to turn the car a given amount (this is especially useful if you have 900˚ rotation enabled).

Steering Linearity – with linearity set to 0%, the in-game steering will respond consistently throughout the full turning arc of the wheel. Increasing this setting reduces the sensitivity of the wheel at the center of its turning arc and increases it at the edges (this is especially useful for 240˚ and 270˚ rotation wheels).

Throttle Deadzone – adjusts the size of the non-responsive 'dead' area at the top of the accelerator pedal's movement; movements within this area will not cause the car to accelerate. Increase this setting to give you more 'play' around the top of the pedal.
